Why It May Be Time to Upgrade Your Electrical Installation
ShareHave you heard of the old maxim 'if it's not broken, don't fix it'? This is all very well in most circumstances, but it's not always good practice, especially if you rely on certain older systems that may appear to be working okay. Consider just such a situation if you are in charge of a large commercial operation that relies on round-the-clock production and is even more reliant on electricity. It's been some time since you conducted a full renovation and you'd rather not spend the money if you can help it, but if you're not careful your old-fashioned electrical installation could fail. Why should you bite the bullet and take action?
Signs of Trouble
As you may know, technology has advanced at lightning speed in the recent decade or more, and this has led to significant improvements in all matters electrical. Take lighting, for example. It's possible that your system is well out of date and may not be providing the right amount of light for full productivity. You should consider a complete upgrade to boost employee morale and to give customers a better impression of your operation when they first arrive.
The rest of your system may be equally out of date, and there is no doubt that this could lead to deterioration with time. You should consider a rewiring upgrade at the very least to stave off a shutdown or to avoid the catastrophic implications of a short circuit.
What to Look for
Maybe you should spend the time to have a close look around and see if you can spot any early signs of danger.
- Check carefully around switches to see if there are any signs of scorch marks or overheating.
- Ask your employees if they are constantly having to reset any tripped breakers.
- See if any of the overhead lighting filaments tend to flicker or go dim without warning.
Make a note of every issue that you find, and you will soon realise that your entire electrical system may need to be replaced.
What about Insurance?
While this may involve some expenditure, you may like to consider the insurance implications for a second as well. Your broker may not be too happy if he or she were to fully understand the position, but on the other hand, they may be able to offer you a discount of some kind if you do take action.
